Incredible Shrinking Packages from ABC News

Incredible Shrinking Package: Consumers Paying More for Less

See What Manufacturers Are Doing to Shrink Your Cereal, Juice and Even Toilet Paper

Buying a "pound" of bacon may not mean what it used to. Americans are getting less sizzle for their buck.

ABC affiliate WEWS found that some companies, like Hormel, are packaging bacon in 12-ounce portions instead of the former standard of 16 ounces -- a full pound.
The shrinking amount of bacon isn't the only thing fooling you at the grocery store.
Tod Marks, senior editor with Consumer Reports magazine, said the trend of shrinking packages is because of "input inflation." The high costs of ingredients and production have forced some manufacturers to give consumers less product for the same price.
"A price increase in this economy is the kiss of death," Marks said. "They'd rather kind of play a shell game with consumers, a little bit of trickery and, hopefully, the consumer won't notice that the product is, in fact, shrinking."

The changes are slight enough to make consumers think their eyes might be deceiving them, but manufacturers definitely are shrinking everything from cereal to mayonnaise and even toilet paper.

Shrinking Toilet Tissue Rolls, Skinnier Cereal Boxes and False Bottoms

Take toilet paper, for example. For years, consumers bought a 1,000-sheet roll of Scott's toilet tissue with each of those tiny little square sheets measuring 4.5 inches by 4.5 inches. Now, consumers can still by a 1,000-sheet roll, but those sheets are skinnier.

"We've heard every excuse in the book," Marks said. "There's no bound to what manufacturers will do."A little paper trimmed off the sides of each sheet means that a four roll pack has 42 square feet less of paper.
Toilet paper isn't the only thing getting skinnier. Cereal makers are putting less cereal in boxes, but you might not be able to tell. The boxes are thinner so they appear full when you open them.
Skinnier boxes and thinner sheets are among many tricks, Marks said.
Another trick to look out for is false bottoms.
"Look at things like peanut butter jars," Marks said. "You'll often see a jar that has the same dimensions, the height's the same, the diameter's the same, but what you might not notice is that ... you can stick your finger up the bottom of the jar because it's been rounded to hide it's holding less."

Buying a pound of bacon doesn't mean what it used to, Americans are getting less sizzle for their buck.
Products are shrinking -- causing consumers often to get less soap, bacon, orange juice and toilet paper for their money.

Packaging Trick: 'Slack-Fill'

Next, give that bag of chips in your pantry a look. If it seems like your bag of chips is disappearing faster than normal, it probably is.
Walletpop.com, a consumer finance website, reported that Frito-Lay has cut the number of chips in its bags across its product line. Some formerly 12-ounce bags of Lay's or Doritos are now 10 ounces. The bag looks the same but feels a little lighter.
Something else that feels a little lighter is that carton of Tropicana orange juice. ABC News bought a 64-ounce carton, but when we poured the juice out, there was actually only 54 ounces of liquid.
Consumer experts have a name for what manufacturers are doing. It's called "slack fill" when there is over-packaging, meaning that the volume of product in the container doesn't actually match the container's capacity.

Review: Butterfly Kisses Bath

I received a order today from a company called Butterfly Kisses Bath. It's a local bath & body company owned by a woman named Keisha. I only ordered 1 scent just because I wanted to try it out and then see how I liked it and go from there.

I ordered a scent called Cranberry Amber which was recommended to me by a sistagirl friend of mine. It's a very sweet scent. It's hard to describe but it's a very, very sweet scent. If you're not into sweet smelling scents then you may want to try another scent. I like it although I do want to try other scents as well. The Body Butter really does moisturize your skin and it doesn't feel greasy.

I ordered the Body Butter, I got the All Over Body Lotion and the Roll On Perfume as a Added Bonus.
I have already tried all three and I must say that I really like it. Would I order from her again...Yes.

The only one complaint I have is that it took my order longer than I would have liked to get to me especially for it being a local company but other than that, I am pleased. I say you should give Butterfly Kisses Bath a try. Let me know how you like it.

Here is the website so you can place a order:  http://www.etsy.com/shop/ButterflyKissesBath

They are also on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Butterfly-Kisses-Organic-Bath-Products/379565634803?ref=ts

Tell Keisha that Raycal sent you there. Later!

YES WE CAN! Baby goes crazy for Obama.

Never amazes us what kids say, watching the video of this lil kid doing all the Presidents best one-liners is funny as hell. We think his moms had to coach him, the kid knows ever President from Harry S. Truman to Barack Obama.

The little Presidential scholar showed up on Americas Funniest Home Videos ad they just had to play this video. It's great to see parents teaching their kids at a young age about history, it's safe to say this kid will get an A in history when he starts school. Take a look at the lil homie as he give us a history lesson on Presidential one-liners, the best moment is when he does W. lmao!!!

Watch him do his thing....

Too cute!!

FOOD, FOOD AND MORE FOOD!

Good Morning All,

I don't know why but I take pictures sometimes of the meals I eat. This first picture is of some chicken wangs..lol and ribs that my husband grilled the other day. They were really good. Both of em.

This next meal is a Shrimp & Bacon Club that I ordered from Cheesecake Factory for Lunch last week. It's really good. I would have never thought to eat Shrimp & Bacon together but I heard about it on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Chris Rock said it was one of his favorite sandwiches so I decided to give it a try.

Hubby cooked this meal one night for Dinner, it's Chicken, Cheese Rice and Corn on the Cob. This dinner was deeelicious. My husband can put a hurting on some chicken. I've been telling him and his mom for years that they need to open a restaurant but they have yet to do it. *sigh*

Last but not least is the Lobster Roll, I had this from Red Hook Lobster Truck in DC. They drive around to various locations around DC for Lunch and I think Dinner too and you can get a Lobster Roll for around $15.00. You can get it mayo based or drizzled in butter. I got mine mayo based. It was very good and had a lot of Lobster meat on it as well. I would recommend you at least give a try and see if you like it.

Well that's all of my meals for now....LOL Hope you get a chance to try out the Lobster Roll and the Shrimp & Bacon Club at least. TTYL!

15 People You Should NOT Be Friends With On Facebook

15 People You Should NOT Be Friends With On FacebookiStockphoto

Even though the Facebook empire is taking over the world and everyone you know in it (even your grandparents), that doesn’t mean that you are obligated to accept every friend request or suggestion that comes your way. In fact, there are some people who are best left out of your social network. After the jump, the people you should never friend on Facebook. Because not all friend requests are created equal.
  1. Your therapist. Yes, your therapist may be the person who knows you best. If you are considering a Facebook friendship with your shrink, we say, “Leave that s**t on the couch.”
  2. Your parents’ friends. DO NOT WANT creepy messages about how wonderful you look now. As opposed to when you were 11?
  3. Family members who like to gossip to other family members. How did your Aunt Ida find out there’s a picture of you making out with a stranger in a bar? (Side note: don’t friend the stranger you made out in a bar with either, even if he becomes a stranger you are casually dating. See #‘s 4 and 15. )
  4. Any stranger who’s trying to friend you ‘cause you “look good.” That’s code for “I’m a sex worker, con artist, or murderer.” Actually, anyone whose a stranger. Stranger = danger.
  5. A stranger who you just so happen to have friends in common with.Facebook intuited that you know people in common? So what? If Facebook jumped off a bridge would you? (Sorry, Friendster, that wasn’t a jab at you. I miss you, Friendster! XOXO.)
  6. Your boss. Obviously because then you can’t write status updates about how much work sucks or post pictures of you defacing company property. (This rule doesn’t apply if you are employed at The Frisky.)
  7. Professional contacts. They don’t care that your cat went to the vet today.
  8. Fundamentalists or extremists. Do you want spam on your feed with links to propaganda websites? No, you don’t.
  9. Any person whose life revolves around their small child. Status updates about bowel movements are not “fun breaks” from your workday; they are “punishments.”
  10. Farmville and FourSquare fanatics. Don’t even get me started. Just get a life.
  11. Anyone you didn’t actually like in high school. The high school bitch who was always mean to you doesn’t deserve to be your friend now, even if she is toothless and you are a sexy brain surgeon. Leave her to karma, not Facebook.
  12. People in your life you’ve had a falling-out with. If your awful college roomiesends you a friend request with no note or message, she’s doesn’t deserve to be forgiven after 10 years.
  13. The guy your friend has a crush on. Unless you knew him first ... that’s shady.
  14. Your ex’s new significant other. Bound to make you want to eat a s**t sandwich.
  15. Anyone you’re dating casually. After you’re done with them three weeks later, they’ll just be clogging up your feed.

Tyler Perry on Oprah Winfrey Show

I'm sitting here after watching The Oprah Winfrey Show......crying. Tyler Perry was on her show today and he told the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about his childhood, his father, how he was molested and sexually abused by several different people. Some of it hit home for me because I was raised in a abusive household. My dad used to beat my mom. I can't say how often but it was often enough. Too often for me.

I was a little girl and it was nothing I could do but listen and cry and pray. Typing this now I'm beginning to cry because I remember the pain. I remember how scared I was. How much I wish I could have went far, far away but there was nothing I could do but listen and cry and pray. It didn't take much to set my dad off, it could be anything or nothing at all and he would go into this rage and just yell and scream and beat on my mother.

I would sit in my bedroom in my bed and just listen and cry and pray. Praying that God would make it all go away...but it didn't. This continued for years, I remember a period of about 6 years I dealt with this life. A life of abuse until one day my mom finally said enough was enough and she hit him back. I don't know what took my mom so long to fight back, I really don't. She was a full figured woman like many southern black women back then and my dad was a skinny lil thing. Not big at all but somehow was able to whoop on my momma without a problem at all. I realize now that it's because she feared him and it was her fear that crippled her.

On this one night, my mom feared him no more and she swung her fist and hit him back so hard that he flung over top of the sofa and landed onto the coffee table on the other side and broke it in half with the weight and force of his body landing on it. Now mind you this was back in the day so this coffee table wasn't like the cheap ones they make now. This was the real deal, real wood and real thick and that table was broken in two. He laid there, in shock. He couldn't believe my mother had actually hit him back. And I tell you, he DID NOT move. My mom grabbed my hand and said let's go.

We left that house that night and went to my Aunt's. My mom was done with it. She was done with him and the abuse, the drinking, the yelling, all of it. She was sick and tired of being sick and tired. She went to the police station the next day to file a police report and I think a restraining order. I never stayed in that house with my father again. He left, moved out and went to stay with his mom and that's where he lived until he died.

It took me a loooooong time before I was able to forgive my father for what he had done not only to my mother but to me and my sister. He had made our life a living hell. The day after my dad left and I came home from school knowing he wouldn't be there....I was the happiest girl on earth. So glad that I didn't have to endure the abuse anymore. I could be a kid again and be happy like other kids were to go home.

I finally did forgive my father long before he passed away and I'm so happy that I did. I love my dad and I know he caused us pain because he himself was in pain. I am as strong as I am today because of what I had to endure as a child and even though it was a awful time in my life I still thank god for it because it is part of who makes me who I am.

Tyler Perry's story was amazing. I admire him even more now than I did before. Tyler Perry's story showed me that you have to be careful what you say about people and how you judge them because you never know what it is that they have been through. Life is a struggle and we all have to fight our own battles. I am just glad that I fought mine to the bitter end. I didn't let it have control over me.

Fear has always been something I've had extreme difficulty overcoming. I think it stems back to my childhood because I was very fearful of my dad but there was nothing I can do but listen and cry and pray and I did just that and it got me through. Thank you Tyler Perry for sharing your truth. That was very cleansing to you, I believe and I'm sure it was the same to others watching. You were so brave to talk about it and it has allowed me to purge a little bit of my situation out of me. God Bless!

I'm a sucker for a banging beat..

Give me a song with a fat beat and I can put that thing on repeat like I don't know what.
It's a song that generally I wouldn't like but give it a fat beat and catchy hook and I'm a fan.

I just heard this song the other day on WPGC and the hook kept saying "your back is just the fattest". Now that is disrespectful, right. LOL Yep! But the beat had me hook, line and sinker. I quickly googled it and found it on YouTube and downloaded it to my iPod Touch.

It's from some guy called Big Kuntry, (who I have never ever heard of) with Trey Songz on the hook. T.I. is in the video, not sure why but he's in there. This song has the bangingest beat. (If that's a word) I am just a music fiend. I can listen to so many different types of music and absolutely love it. I'm weird I guess cause I can listen to something like this today and tomorrow, I'm all into New Age from Enya and Yanni the the next day I can focus on Yolanda Adams, Smokie Norful and James Fortune.

This is one of my favorite Enya songs....

This is one of my favorite songs from James Fortune....

Then on another day I can rock my girl Shania Twain....yep I said Shania Twain. Love her! This is one of my favorite songs from her....

I am just so multifaceted when it comes to music. SMH!!! Here's the video for that song I was talking about. It's called "Da Baddest".

And everybody who knows me, knows I love me some Brandy, Fantasia and Nicki Minaj but we'll talk about them later. LOL

When did I know my Husband was THE ONE??

This post was inspired by CreoleinDC and Just another day with Mrs TDJ.

On their blogs they both speak about how they knew their mate was the one and when/how, etc.

Well for me, my husband actually came to me in a dream. This was very odd to me because I very rarely dream or at least I very rarely remember my dreams but in my dream, I met a guy and his name was Bobby. Didn't think anything of it at the time until I actually met a guy named Bobby. LOL

I was walking down the street in front of my Aunt's house and here comes this guy in a red Honda Civic SI, music blazing and bass pumping. Now mind you I had heard and seen this car come down my Aunt's street several times, both day and night. I would always run to the window to try to see who it was but the windows were tinted and they were dark so I couldn't see who was in the car. I assumed it was a dude because of the rims, the tint and the music.

I got my neighbors Mimi and Yodit in on my plan. They were the little girls who lived next door and were outside playing alot with my cousins Sean and Lois so I told them that when they hear the Red Honda Civic coming to run into my aunt's house and let me know. You could always hear him coming from like 2 blocks away because that's how loud his music was. SMH! They did, they ran in the house and said Raycal, he's coming...he's coming. I run outside with the quickness and pretended as if I was already outside the whole time and proceed to walk down the street very casually as if I didn't even notice him. He turned the corner and passed me by, I figured I had failed but then his brake lights came on and he came to a stop and then began to back up. My heart was racing but I kept my cool. He rolled down his window and said "Excuse me, Can I talk to you for a minute?" Just simple words, right but to me, they were music to my ears.

I was always a very well endowed young lady front and back and always would receive attention from men while I was walking down the street and they would always address me and say "Daaaaaamn, baby...how you get all that in them jeans?" or the ever popular "Godaamn girl, you got a phat ass." So when he addressed me like a gentleman, I was so relieved. We dated each other for a short while, just a couple of months before he popped the question...asking me to marry him  on Christmas Day and I said yes. We didn't get married right away, we waited for a while (3 years in fact) but I knew he was the one from the moment he told me his name. Bobby. He was the guy in my dream. He was a gentleman, polite, thoughtful, respectful, loving, sweet, kind and generous. He was the man for me. The man god wanted me to have. He was everything I needed him to be and more.

Now almost 17 years later, We are still together. Our Anniversary is this month in fact: October.
Our song is a song from waaay back by a group called Skyy. The song is titled "Real Love".
We used to ride down Georgia Avenue blasting it on cassette tape while riding to Hanes Point. Those were the days. I love that song...takes me back every single time I hear it.

All I Want is You - Miguel featuring J. Cole (VIDEO)

I flipping love, love, love this song. It's songs like this that let me know I will be a hip hop head til i die.

J. Cole kills it on this song and Miguel has a very nice voice and the beat is the ish.

J. Cole is from my Hometown Fayetteville, NC so I might be biased but he is the nice on the mic.

Looking forward to what the future holds for him. Enjoy the Video!!!

My 1st time shopping @ Lord & Taylor

God knows I have never stepped foot into a Lord & Taylor until this past Sunday.
My Aunt wanted to go shopping for a coat and I agreed to take her since she didn't have anyone else to do it for her. I didn't mind anyway. So....we went to Lord & Taylor, me and her and my lil cousin Lonnie.

It was a nice store, not overly busy like most places where I'm used to shopping (I'm guessing that the prices have something to do with that) LOL but anyway, we proceeded upstairs to where the coats were and my Aunt couldn't find one she liked. She wanted one past her knees but not all the way down to the floor and she wanted it to be cashmere. I helped her look and finally we came across one that she liked. She tried it on and everything, I have to admit it was a really nice coat. Very nice and soft and cozy. It was made by Calvin Klein.

Well when I looked at that price tag I thought I was gonna pass out. That coat was originally $430.00 and on sale for $299.00. The woman behind the cash register had a coupon for 20 or 30 % off, I can't remember and my aunts total came to $189 or 198. HUGE DIFFERENCE!

But still, that coat was too damn expensive. My Aunt asked me if I wanted anything so she could give it to me for my birthday and I didn't know where to begin. I'm like the store costs too much for me to buy anything in here so I started looking into the cologne thinking that would be a pretty inexpensive option. NOT! Even the cologne for the most part is close to $100. I asked about Heat by Beyonce and Mariah Carey's cologne and that woman was like um, we don't carry that. You might can go to Macy's and get that. LOL

I'm like damn! Yall don't carry nothing huh. They had no Jennifer Lopez, No Halle Berry, No Jessica Simpson, No Britney Spears, Name your celebrity and they don't have it. All they had were Fashion Designers and the like. Prada, Gucci, Vera Wang, etc, etc, etc. So I decided on Vera Wang. Her cologne is pure heaven. I fell in love with the scent. They had a gift set that was $80.00 which included the cologne (big bottle and small bottle for your purse) and the lotion. Although I'm happy to have it $80.00 just seems like a lot of money to spend on 1-1/2 bottles of cologne. Do you know how much Lunableu I can get for that price? LOLOLOLOL

I had walked over into the purse section and I saw a B. Makowsky handbag. Now mind you, weeks prior I never even knew what a B. Makowsky was until the sistas of DCSG started talking about it and lo and behold, I want one. Now I am thinking about taking the cologne back and buying me a purse. Damn those ladies, they always getting me into something. *le sigh*

I found myself on the site last night (www.lordandtaylor.com) looking for B. Makowsky bags on Clearance.
I found one and I WANT IT! It comes in several different colors. It's $215.99 on Clearance and if I take the cologne back that's over $80.00 in credit I can put towards the purchase which would bring it down to $135.99. What should I do? I vowed to never pay this much for a purse and here I am contemplating it.

Hell, I personally would never pay $80 for some cologne. Especially not when I can get Lunableu to make a duplicate version of it for me. DECISIONS, DECISIONS!
